What Standards???

Ok so NCSS  has a wonderful list of standards that should be used as a guide for planning and teaching Social Studies curriculum. When looking at an elementary Social Studies textbook, the standards are nowhere to be found. However, the book does cover most of them without pointing them out.
 Science and Technology were definitely missing out of the one I looked at. I do not think this textbook created a higher level of learning or thinking because the main activities in it were basic read, question and answer. There were no activities where students needed to ponder or reflect or even CREATE anything. It is somewhat appropriate but the reading level was 3 grades higher than it should have been!!!!
