Sooo you wanna be a teacher???

So Dr. Smirnova had the class collaborate and create our very first social studies test. To prepare us, she had us do several readings in regards to what makes good test questions.

The readings provided so much important information for teachers on what makes a good multiple choice question, what makes a good short answer question, extended response and essay questions. I never put much thought into how to make a test!!

For me, it was still a very trying task. I have no teaching experience except for some subbing and field work. I had a hard time trying to pick out the proper content to ask. The biggest challenge I faced, was the essay question. It took me and my group so long to come up with one. I am not sure why this was so hard but I am still a bit uncomfortable with it. I really enjoyed the activity part of this assignment which had us try to find a way to involve the parents of our students. This was great! I loved creating the activity and the parent letter. I am a very creative and loud individual so maybe this is why this was my favorite part!!!!

Although at times I am very stressed out, I really appreciate the experiences Dr. Smirnova creates for us to have because they are relevant to what we will do in our own classrooms one day.

  1. Angela, I agree creating the test was more difficult than I had originally thought especially creating the "distrators". I too found the readings (chapter 7 and 8 pdf) very helpful =).

  2. Well said Angela! I found the multiple choice questions the most difficult. I had a hard time with the "incorrect" answers for my test questions. I did not want them to sound silly or be too ridiculous that they would not challenge the students.
I love all of the pictures you put in your blog!!

p.s. I fed your fish today.
